Southern Spice is a middling but extremely popular restaurant, specializing in Andhra cuisine, (of the fierier, the better kind), although there is a smattering presence of the other southern states too. There is also Chinese and North Indian on the meu but it's a lot like ordering potato wedges at Kentucky Fried Chicken! Decor is passable, of the Lepakshi kalamkari leather lampshades kind, and service is a little too brisk, sometimes, to take care of waiting diners. Regional flavours of Andhra are well-represented here, so there is the Ragi Sangati and Jonna Rotis to give you company with Gongura Mamsam, Chicken Chettinad, Apollo Fish or Chapa Pulusu. There is ghee rice and all other kinds of flavoured rice, including plain steamed rice, to be had with red-hot pepper rasam. There are also price-friendly Andhra Thalis, (vegetarian) complete with rasam, sambar, vegetable dishes, chutneys, curd and pickles, which you can complement with non-veg dishes of your choice. Southern Spice owes its popularity both to its central location and consistent quality of the genre of food it serves.
